How to make the Paint looks good on the Sandstone?
But what if after some years, you get bored of the colour or want to try out a different colour? Well, you can! Sandstone can be painted only not in different colours. Also, there are steps you need to follow to make the paint look good on the sandstone.
1) Clean it up real nice
If the sandstone is all dusty when you start painting it then after the paint dries up, the coat will be uneven, and it will look ungraceful and highly unsightly. So, the best way would be to vacuum or wipe the dust away and then pressure wash it so that no signs of dust are left on the surface.
2) Apply the Sealant
The sealant helps the paint last longer and keeps it from fading over the years. Sealants are easily available on home décor stores and can be ordered online as well. They are also very easy to apply. You just apply it on the whole surface with a generous amount. Then it is important to let it dry very properly before you start painting it. You can leave it to dry for at least 24 hours before you move over to the next step. Also, while the sealant is drying, carefully observe for any areas you may have missed. You can tell this easily by checking if one area looks duller than the rest. If it does, apply the sealant there as well. There must be no imperfections so as to avoid any grotesque sights after you have painted the surface.
3) Prime it up with some Primer!
After the sealant has dried up nicely, you apply a layer of primer to it. This too must be done generously leaving no spots uncovered. Be careful to spread it out evenly and to give it enough time to dry up.
4) Colour it up!
Finally, when the primer has dried up completely, the surface is ready for the colour. Paint it up nice and even with your chosen colour. Also, it is a good idea to paint the surface in two coats so that if the first coat is missing something, the second coat evens everything out and makes the colour stand out more.
