Sandstone is a porous, sedimentary rock that can get utilised for indoor or outdoor paving or flooring. It provides an organic and rustic touch to a space and is quite durable. You must ensure proper installation of the sandstone if you are cutting sandstone yourself. It entails laying a well-drained mortar-lined, stable base for the stones to adhere to. You also need to fit the stones into the available space neatly. Slabs may need to get trimmed to fit around corners or edges.

Follow These Steps For Cutting Sandstones

Step 1

A blade with a diamond tip can be rented or borrowed. Sandstone must get sliced through using a powerful power tool. The stone might shatter, or you won’t be able to penetrate it if it is not sharp or moving quickly enough.

Step 2

Mark the sandstone slab with chalk where it should get cut sandstone. Mark these lines with a piece of chalk and a ruler. Verify your work at least twice to ensure accuracy. You cannot put the slab back together if it is incorrect. Don’t forget to provide room for a joint gap. For instance, if the measurement is 9.5 inches, cut the slab at 9 inches, leaving 0.25 inches on either side.

Step 3

Lay the slab flat so that you can cut it. Place it firmly on a sandbag or other sturdy surface. If you don’t have sandbags, you may prop it up on a bed of bricks, the edge of a kerb, or a paver’s hammer.

Step 4

Examine the region where the sandstone slab will be cut. Get pets and onlookers out of the area because a lot of dust will be created. To give yourself adequate space to move, ensure you are about 6.5 feet away from any walls.

Step 5

Cut sandstone by turning on the blade. Starting from one side, proceed steadily to the other. For complete control, use two hands to hold the blade. Cut the slab in half. Firmly press down and drag the blade carefully across the chalk line.

Step 6

Turn off the blade. Hammer the slab where you made the half-cut after flipping the sandstone slab over. The chalk line should cause the sandstone slab to crack. The hammer delivered a solid, precise blow to the slab. If it doesn’t crack, run the blade back over the line. This method works well for straight lines.
